Embarked on a strategic initiative to revamp the scheduling experience for supervisors within the Inspection Rounds Platform, aiming to enhance efficiency in the oil & gas industry. Through meticulous redesign and optimization efforts, we streamlined workflows, improved resource allocation, and ultimately elevated operational performance to new heights.
During my tenure, I undertook the task of redesigning the scheduling tool used by supervisors in the Inspection Rounds platform. This involved improving the manual appointment scheduling process, enhancing monitoring capabilities, and simplifying recurrence frequency settings. Collaborating with a dedicated team, my responsibilities encompassed stakeholder workshops, user research, ideation, wireframing, UI design, prototyping, and usability testing.
To begin, I conducted stakeholder workshops, a UX audit, and in-depth qualitative interviews with users. This helped create a comprehensive customer journey map, unveiling key interactions, pain points, and opportunities for improvement. The users identified, including Operations Managers, Plant Superintendents, Task Schedulers, and Site Administrators, utilize this planning tool for monitoring and scheduling tasks based on administrative configurations.
Our goal was to craft a scalable product that seamlessly integrated with supervisors' daily workflows, making it easy to use while improving efficiency. After conducting user interviews, feedback workshops, and UX audits, we identified areas for enhancement. Notable findings included the need for automation in scheduling, round-the-clock visibility, and more efficient planning based on task progress and resource availability.
Using the derived information, I have started with some pencil sketches to ideate. Created multiple concepts for the requirement and further conducted usability testing for the same.
Following our research, we proposed new concepts that streamlined the user flow and reduced navigation complexity. These proposals underwent extensive discussions with stakeholders, resulting in a feasible and user-friendly flow that met technical limitations. Wireframes and prototypes were created to visualize the changes, and after obtaining consensus from the team, we implemented the final concept.
In conclusion, this project marked a significant milestone in enhancing the Inspection Rounds platform. While joining mid-project posed unique challenges, our efforts yielded remarkable results. The redesign led to a 40% reduction in time spent analyzing appointment statuses, simplified the planning board with five fewer clicks for scheduling appointments, and attracted new clients. Despite the project's NDA constraints, this case study underscores the value of user-centric design in improving scheduling tools and, by extension, productivity in the oil & gas industry.
