BRIEF

Joining the project post-several releases, my role primarily centered on refining the Inspection Rounds Platform through continuous user and business feedback analysis. In the Oil & Gas sector, where field operators grappled with manual and time-consuming tasks, we aimed to streamline their processes. The platform's creation, scheduling, and monitoring of tasks were initially daunting, consuming over 30 hours weekly. Leveraging the insights gained from user feedback and industry analysis, we proposed automation based on preconfigured field operations cycles. This transformation aimed to slash the laborious round execution time from 30 hours to a mere 10-15 minutes, coupled with an 80% reduction in manual documentation. My journey on this project highlights the value of user-centric improvements, even for those who join mid-course.

DISCOVER

My first step after onboarding was to understand the existing product and the user feedback. To do this, I went through all the product documents and conducted multiple discussions with the stakeholders to know their processes, business objectives, and expectations about the product. This helped me get a high-level understanding of the domain & business approach.

DEFINE

After the primary research, it was evident that the mobile & tablet on-site devices are being used by the field operators. By conducting user interviews, reading through the job descriptions and other related articles on the internet, I started to understand the day-to-day life of the field operators on-site.

WIREFRAMES

Once we finalized the IA after iterations, we started with wireframes. Tablet redesign was our first step, which further led to redesign of few mobile features. For each module, we had extensive stakeholder meetings to get them into the development pipeline.

I follow the same design process for both the identified opportunities & the requirements received in agile method. The main difference between this is that we have to initiate the discussions, propose concepts by showing the value addition and get the stakeholders onboarded for these changes.

DESIGN

After a series of usability testing & stakeholder discussions, we have redefined the mobile & tablet flows as per the movilizer platform. Once the user stories and workflow is defined, we use the component library to build the final designs. Over multiple discussions, the feedback is gathered and is implemented.

Along with these, I was responsible for the files management of the E2E experience of mobile & tablet designs. As this project is confidential, I can't show the real designs.

CONCLUSION

In conclusion, our endeavours have been transformative. By the time I joined the project, the groundwork was laid, but there was a crucial need for ongoing refinements. This is where my role came into play - analysing user feedback, performing UX audits, and orchestrating a series of iterative enhancements. These improvements culminated in a 60% reduction in on-site task execution time, simplification of the mobile interface with fewer clicks for users, and a commendable 30% increase in client conversion rates. Notably, our efforts also expanded our clientele, securing partnerships with major players in the Oil & Gas industry. This journey underscores the tremendous value of user-centric design, even when one joins a project in progress. My role served as a testament to the power of continuous improvement, always keeping the end-users' needs and preferences at the forefront of our development efforts.
